    Cough and Coffee
Bronchitis is here again. I was up coughing half the night when I should have been sleeping. Crystal wants me to see a Dr. but I say it will get better on its own. Sooner or later I am going to have to start taking better care of myself. I still like beer and an occasional smoke.

Right now I am drinking a cup of hot coffee and that is making me feel better. I wish I had a job where I didn't have to talk all day. Sometimes I feel that I am losing my breath at work. To paraphrase Kareem: "Live for Job? No, I guess you could say I exist at Job," "I am a soldier hired for service and I will perform that service well. Job has given me a good life, but this job has nothing to do with my roots. There's no common ground."

I look every day for job post but being that my job is a popularity contest if you are not a kiss ass or pretty(boy or girl)then you are stuck. I have been the best in my department for the last year and a half and have watched so many others with less talent get promoted. It sickens me. I suppose that is one of the many problems of the company and why they are ranked by doctors as the worst at paying claims. I am a hired gun and will continue to strive to be the best. If only picking horses was more profitable. Saratoga is only a month and a half away. I can dream of te pick 6 that when I hit it will change my life. I know it will come sooner or later.

Time to go to work and put on my happy face. Of course my happy face usually fades within the first hour of being there.

    Good news today is Friday.

    Tonight beer.........

    Met Mile
Going with a real longshot here but if the speed burns each other out then he can pick up the check for the victory. Todays play the tried and true win, place, and show bet on the 5.

Good luck and have a great day.

    Still learning
Horses yesterday finished first, second, and fourth. It was close to a score. Today I am up early I awoke at 5:30 am. I am drinking a diet Rock Star. I have just finished watching Family Guy disc two of season one, very funny. Today not much planned I will be going to the grocery store to get some food once Crystal gets up. I have already taken Bailey out for a walk.

I am going to try and do more yard work today. It looks like a nice day weather wise. I have a 12 pack of Red Stripe and an 8 pack of Guinness this should get me by the next two days.

Yesterday I started to plan a way to get back into shape. I am going to ride the stationary bike 30 minutes every day for the month of June and lift weights on M-W-F mornings. I figure I can get down to 195 by the end of June if I quit drinking beer for the month and exercise. That's about 10 to 12 pounds to lose.

It wasn't easy not betting on the horses yesterday. I was outside in the sun and really wanted to play. This is good because when I come back in two weeks to it my creative juice's will be flowing and I will surely hit some astonishing trifectas, daily doubles, pick 3s, and pick 4s. I plan on hitting quite a few exactas and a few superfectas.

Today's play is at Belmont Race 8 the Jaipur Grade 3 stakes race a 6 furlong dash on the turf. My top four are #1 Summer Service, #2 Not Phone (ARG), #8 Around The Cape, and #3 Si O No (CHI).
    Play the trifecta box for $1 the 1 w 2 w 8 w 3. cost $24 or play the superfecta and go for the big score $1 box 1 w 2 w 8 w 3 also $24. Good luck.

That it for now have a great day.

    3 days off
I am very happy to have 3 days off from work. It has been a long week at cube farm. This week they have decided we should no longer be allowed 1 hour lunches back to the 45 minute lunches with a 15 minute break. The last time they did this to me they gave me a 9:15 am break and a 11:30 am lunch. I started the days then at 8 am and worked to 4:45 pm. I have been interviewing for other positions at the company but no luck getting out of the farm yet. I did have a second interview for a good position with some road work. This weekend no betting. I am just going to clean, drink beer, and relax for my three days.

Horse racing is going to become more profitable for me when I return from this self imposed hiatus. I am planning on betting more with the exotics where I can actually make a life changing score if I play the right combos. I have found that sometimes when I back off for a few weeks from playing the horses or even on-line poker that when I come back I am better for the rest. Lets be fair to me I do work 40 hours on a cube farm, have a lovely wife, great dog, and handicap the races over 40 hours a week also. Who needs more than 5 hours sleep a day anyway?

I am not betting today but I am going to give out a free pick for all today. ASI SIEMPRE (El Prado [Ire])SHEEPSHEAD BAY H. (G2), 8TH-BEL, play horse in a tri box with HONEY RYDER (Lasting Approval) and ANGARA (GB) (Alzao). The bet is $2 trifecta box the 1 with 5 with 6 total cost $12. This is a turf race and it has been raining so be you may want to only bet a $1 box total cost would be $6

It was good to be back posting here. Its been to long.
    Have a great weekend.

    Interview
Bailey is crying. He misses Crystal she had to go to work early today. I am not looking forward to answering a 100 plus calls today at work, but that's my job still. I did have a second interview for another position at the company. It would be an advancement if I get it. I would do just about anything to get off being on the phones all day.

I have decided to take a few weeks off from betting the horses. I hope to be back betting by Belmont Stakes day.

I will be at Delaney's for happy hour tonight to celebrate Katie getting a new job.

Time to drink more coffee and get ready for my day in Hell.

    Peace to all.....

    The Donn and Strub
The pick for the Donn at Gulfstream go with St Liam over Roses in May with Eddington picking up the pieces. In the Santa Anita Strub stakes go with Rock Hard Ten to win.

Last week Crystal and I looked at golden retriever puppies. She wanted to buy 2 of them. I am not ready for a dog yet much less for a puppy. I prefer to wait till the end of March. I do miss my dog Thor. I still feel his presence with me. I am glad that he is no longer suffering.

Both Crystal and I found comfort in the fact that on the day Thor was put down a horse was making his first start at Santa Anita named Thor's Echo. Thor's first race was not a win, but he didn't disappoint either, finishing a solid third. He was able to come back and race about 5 weeks later and won pulling away in an impressive 4 length victory. His next start may be tougher for him to win as he will be facing winners for the first time, but I look for him to win a few more races this year.

I set my own personal record a 151 calls in a day. I still hate my job, but I will always give my best. I applied for a claim processing job and an Enrollment and Billing rep. I prefer the E and B job. Will see what happens. I have now been at Anthem for 3 and a half years.

Other news in brief hit my first pic 6 at santa anita(well 5 of 6). If I had all 6 it would have been 40,000. I was close and am more determined than ever to hit a big paying pic 6. Today there is a carry over at santa anita for the pic 6 of over 350,000 so I will be playing that. For the Super Bowl my pic to win is the Patriots. I am not betting on the game. I plan to just watch and enjoy the time with family and friends.

    That is all for now.

128 calls today a new Record
They just kept coming. They would not stop. I had no choice, but to answer.

Christmas and New Years went off without a hitch.

I am not betting horses for a month or more. I will be waiting for better weather. I will be looking for Thor's Echo to run again, he ran 3rd in his debut.

Trying not to spend much money for the month of Jan. I gave up drinking for the month also. I might try 2 months.

I miss my dog Thor and know that I will need to get a new dog sometime in the next couple months. Crystal wants a golden retriever puppy. I think we would be better rescuing a dog.

Still fooling the man. Peace to all.

    Good Bye Thor
The day has finally arrived to put Thor down. He lived a good life. He went to the ROck and Roll Hall of Fame twice, stayed in Hotels in Saratoga Springs. He loved going to my grandmothers farm in Lostant Ill. This Dog has been around. He has been to a riverboat casino in Peoria Ill. He loved going for hikes at Starved Rock Park. He will be missed. I came home every day from work at lunch time to take him out. Here is a toast to a great dog.....

Now for todays race. 8th Race - Hollywood Park - Saturday, December 18th, 2004 5 Proud Accolade looks live here with Johnny V flying to Cali to take the mount. Play him to win. Extra Pick today Calder - W. L. McKnight Handicap Race 11 #6 DR. BRENDLER fits with one of my favorite angles third start off a layoff. Solid chance here with Santos riding.

Thats it for now. I have to wake Crystal up so we can bring the collie in. Good Luck with the Picks.....

    Loucamania (BRZ)
2nd Race - Hollywood Park - Friday, December 17th, 2004 6 Loucamania (BRZ) finished a close second at this class level last out, looks much the best of these. Play Loucamania (BRZ) to win....

Now for the sad news. The time has come for Thor to go to the vet for the last time. He has not been eating and can not hold down liquids and he has a bark that is both silent and scary at the same time. It wakes me up when he barks. So I am pretty much going on day 2 with little to no sleep (maybe 3 hours in the last 2 nights). His appointment is for Saturday morning at 9:45 am in the North Haven, CT animal hospital on rte 5. Crystal is very upset. I have tried to calm her down, but she needs to grieve. Thor is about 14 years old and he was born on St Patrick's day.

Calls from providers at work much less stressful than calls from members. They still can be annoying but not quite as bad. The real problem with my job is the poor quality of information for the call takers. The job would be easier if the information on the computer that we have to give out was correct. At least I have a job. I am out of here L8R

    Good Luck with the pick

8th Race - Aqueduct 6 Fait Accompli should sit off a fast pace and close for the win.

Very tired this morning. My coffee is cold and not yet doing its job of waking me up. I am in no mood to go to work today, but I will go anyway. Taking way to many phone calls at work. 100 on Monday and another 100 yesterday. I cant wait for Friday at 5 pm to be free from my job.

Saturday Crystal and I are going to do some Christmas shopping and we may go to the Mark Twain house.
I still have not started shopping for xmas. I just don't feel very cherry yet. Maybe the Christmas spirit will hit me but now I feel like its a waste of time and money.

Time to get ready for work.

    A. P. Adventure
8th Race - Hollywood Park #1 A. P. Adventure. Comes into race off a 7 month layoff has won fresh off layoff twice in past. Solid works for return. Should be able to work a good trip breaking from the rail. There will be plenty of pace up front for A.P. Adventure to just sit behind dueling leaders and make a strong move down the backstretch. Appears to be in the garden spot..

Yesterday Dynever finished 2nd made closing move on leader but could not catch the loose front runner.

Thor still alive. He is resting comfortably.

    Good luck with the pick..

    Dynever
Todays top pick is at Hollywood Park race 7 #7 Dynever. He is making his 3rd start off a layoff drooping from a Grade 1 race to a Grade 3 race. He will be sitting in the back of the pack and make a strong move down the stretch to beat these. Main threat will be the #1 Supah Blitz. Yesterdays Pick Black Mariah won. The record now stands at 5 wins from 7 races.

A few extra picks: Race 4 at Hollywood Park the #4 Fusaichi Samurai will be making his debut. He was purchased for 4.5 million at auction. Look for him to be ready to fire at first asking . Price on him will be short but he looks solid and his trainer Neil Drysdale is very confident that he will run well first out. Race 9 Fair Grounds # 2 Spritely Walker is the class if the field comes in race off layoff won this race last year look for a top effort here today. Main threat will be #4 Walk in the Snow.

Thor is still alive. I could not put him down on Friday. Crystal is happy to have him around for a few more days. He is resting comfortably and we are happy to see him drinking some water again. He is also drinking some beef broth with vitamins.

Weekends are great. Good luck with the pick.....
